10 Demonic Possession Movies Based on True Cases

7. The Serpent and the Rainbow

Wade Davis’ non-fiction book inspired this zombie film about Clairvius Narcisse. After being dead for two decades, this Haitan man allegedly resurrected and went to his home. This incident was tagged by Vodoo practitioners as some form of folk magic.

The author believed that Narcisse’s brother had poisoned him with puffer fish and toad venom over the possession of a land. After his death, his enslavers fed him a strong hallucinogen to influence amnesia and had him work like a slave on a sugar plantation.

Eventually when they died, the absence of the drug (Datura) restored his sanity, and he found his way home.

8. The Possession

This scary film borders on the true account of a girl reportedly possessed by a Jewish spirit in a box. Reports insisted that Havela, a Polish Holocaust survivor had kept a dried rose, candle holder, an engraved statue, two 11th century pennies, locks of hair, and other items.

Before some Rabbis sealed the box and secretly hid it, they learned that dybbuk had resided in it. In fact, people who owned the box went through “paranormal hell.” They claimed to have health issues, nightmares and weird smells, and sudden balding among other things.

Surprisingly, some strange incidents also occurred during and after the making of the movie.
